All Private colleges are registered with the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
Curriculum
These colleges follow curriculum developed by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) and complies with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLT) guidelines. NACC reviews the curriculum every year and changes are made accordingly.
Mosby’s Canadian Textbook for the Support Worker by Sheila Sorrentino, Elsevier Canada, is used for the theoretical part of the program.
Program Length and Final Exam
A Personal Support Worker training program at private colleges includes 285 hours of in-class teaching and 355 hours of practicum.
Length of PSW certificate programs at these colleges varies. Courses are offered on a Full time and Part time basis.
A final exam is required at the end of the program. Some colleges offer this exam online while others offer a paper based exam. It is developed by NACC and is the same at all colleges that are registered with them.
Upon being successful in the final exam, Personal Support Worker Certificate and a pin are awarded.
A maximum of three attempts are allowed for this exam.
A complete immunization record, Standard First Aid and CPR and Vulnerable Police Screening is required prior to seeking employment as a PSW. Some colleges offer First Aid and CPR as part of the program and some do not.

I was a psw since 2005 and the school I went to doesn’t exist anymore name was Emmanuel Academy of Health and Business. What should I do and get my certificate from them they did not send any certificate and I only have the small one size like a debit card but already expired. How do I renew my certificate because it was expires since July 2006. Please reply I need it for work so I know what to do. Thank you so much.
