Personal Support Worker Jobs With City of Thunder Bay


The City of Thunder Bay, in Ontario, has a department overseeing long-term care for the elderly.

It maintains and administers three homes for the elderly, as well as one general long-term care home.

Two of the city’s homes for the aged (Grandview Lodge and Dawson Court) are closing in late 2015.

The other two are:

  • Jasper Place
  • Pioneer Ridge

What is the pay rate: $22.18 to $23.07 hourly


City of Thunder Bay post two types of jobs:

Job postings that are meant for “Internal” applicants only

Only current employees of the City of Thunder Bay are permitted to apply for internal positions.

Open competition jobs postings

Anyone is welcome to apply for these positions.

All job positions, including the ones for Personal Support Workers are posted in the employment section of the city website.

This will provide you information on all current open competition jobs with the closing dates.

All jobs are usually posted every other Friday for a period of 7 days.

Individuals holding PSW jobs at the City of Thunder Bay are responsible for the following duties:

  • Providing basic nursing care on the basis of the care plan developed for each resident.
  • Supporting and encouraging the participation of residents in daily living activities.
  • Providing input into the creation and maintenance of resident care plans, and taking part in resident care conferences.
  • Reporting changes in the physical and mental condition of residents, to the Registered Nurse, and documenting these changes as per policy.
  • Participating in ensuring a safe environment for staff and residents, and demonstrating a proper response to emergencies, while fully observing safety procedures.
  • Carrying out other related duties, as assigned.
