The Personal Support Worker Return of Service (PSW ROS) Initiative involves supplying a $5,000 incentive for newly graduated personal support workers (PSWs).
This incentive is for anyone who has obtained their PSW certification on or after April 1, 2020.
The catch is that graduates need to commit to six months of employment with a home care or long-term care facility.
This new Personal Support Worker Return of Service Program is aimed at providing training and subsequently recruiting 2000 graduates.
Who is Providing the Bonus?
Funding for the PSW return of service incentive is provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health or Ontario Health.
Who is Qualified for the $5000 PSW Incentive?
If you are a Personal Support Worker, you must fulfill the following conditions in order to become eligible for the $5000 PSW return of service bonus.
- Must have successfully completed PSW training program in Ontario,
- Must have graduated on or after April 1, 2020, and
- Be willing to accept the full-time work schedule by your new employer.
If you are an Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN), you can work as a PSW and be eligible for the $5000 PSW return of service incentive.

What is the Employer Qualification Criteria?
Employers of home care and long-term care facilities need to submit a PSW ROS application through Ontario Health along with their PSW job posting.
Just submission of the application does not guarantee funding.
Ontario Health needs to review each application extensively to determine qualification.
Employers get notified about whether or not they qualify and up to how many PSW positions they are funded for.
How is the $5000 Incentive Dispersed?
Recruits need to understand that the incentive in its entirety will be provided across two installments.
The first payment of $2,000 will be handed out after two-months of completion and the last $3,000 upon successful completion of the six-month period.
PSWs need to fulfill the full-time job requirements set up by their employer in order to receive the bonus.
